Coconut MCT Oil has different types and thus, differ on properties and specific functions namely: C6 (or Caproic Acid), C8 (or Caprylic Acid), C10 (or Capric Acid), and C12 (or Lauric Acid). But of these four, C6, C8, and C10 can go straight to the liver while C12 just like other foods is digested through and broken down in the stomach before being absorbed by blood. Lauric MCT or C12 is sometimes classified as Long-Chain Triglyceride or LCT because it is digested and absorbed much slower than the other types of MCTs.
While C6 can be converted to ketones, it can cause stomach distress and has an unpleasant taste or smell that is why it is typically removed during production. C10 may promote a healthy immune system and provide antibacterial benefits. C12 provides antimicrobial properties. C8 is the most efficient MCT when it comes to quick and steady energy for brain and body, which can be converted to ketones faster than any other MCTs that is why it is considered to be of the highest quality. And while coconut oil contains approximately 55% MCT oil, the C8 is rare and difficult to be extracted since it is only about 7% in coconut oil as opposed to other kinds of MCTs. The efficiency and scarcity of C8 MCT Oil make it the most premium of all MCTs.
